| Lowongan Kerja | Setting Interviews For A New Job: Do The Opposite!

Job hunters can be very passive: posting resumes on job boards instead of frequently searching them; letting inept recruiters contact them instead of finding recruiters who make things happen; being too optimistic about a job prospect, saying "I might as well check it out - why not?" and then saying "I knew that. Why did I bother?"; wondering why so much time passes with so few results.

Almost every candidate could be twice as pro-active as they currently are. Instead of waiting for openings to find you, you need to be looking for openings. Finding your perfect job is about choice: the choice to apply - or not, the choice to accept an interview - or not, the choice to return for a second when you're invited to do so - or not. It's not as much about accepting an offer or not, because by the time you get to that stage - if you've been doing your homework - you should know if you want to be that far along in the game. If you don't, you should have cut out earlier.

Finding your perfect job is not about putting more eggs in your basket as your search goes on, it's about taking them out of your basket. It's why I speak so often on the importance of knowing who you are and what you want. You must know what motivates you, what factors you're firm on and on which ones you'll compromise. For instance, do you function better in a large environment or small? Corporate or non-profit? Team focused or self motivated? You do this by examining your previous jobs - what you liked and didn't like, what worked or didn't, and why. You can't go looking if you don't know what you're looking for.
Not only that, but you'll wait for it to come to you. You may be saying, "Wait! I contacted some recruiters!" and "I did some networking!" or "I've answered ads!" But that's not enough - and while it's more difficult when you're employed, when you're unemployed you have nothing but time. And finding a job can be a full-time job. Once you know what you're looking for, start placing eggs in your basket.

Comb the job boards, research search firms that specialize in your discipline, contact and choose some recruiters, network with your co-workers from previous jobs, contact employers at companies in the area that seem attractive - introduce yourself, ask for advice, see if they have suggestions or connections. You find opportunities that you wouldn't have known about if you'd waited for everything to find you.
You become energized instead of discouraged. And as you learn more about the personality of each company, the management style of each hiring authority, the description of each job, you make the decision to leave the egg in the basket or take it out. But the point is, if it doesn't fit, you're making the choice to take it out, rather than the company making the choice for you.

Obviously if something comes along that appears to fit your profile, follow it up. But my point is having a lot of opportunities from which to choose isn't a groovy thing if few of them are viable. So don't wait around to see which of those iffy things come through. Chuck them over your shoulder and get after finding what you want! Change is an anathema to most people. It's scary and uncomfortable. When you're job searching passively - especially if you think you're pro-active - you don't have to think about what if you make the wrong decision, what if you don't like the new job, what if you become unhappy at your new company, and "Oh, I miss that job I had five years ago! I wish I hadn't quit!" But in fact, that's a fallacy. The only thing being passive about job hunting does is ensure that your fears become actualized. To avoid those fears coming true, you need to get out there and make it happen.

The process may be scary, but the result is a relief. And the result is with you far longer than the process is. So instead of being passive, be pro-active and aggressive. Instead of throwing eggs into your basket, know what you want so that you can throw them out. Instead of becoming inert because you're afraid of the potential results, eliminate them by thinking of ways to discover hidden opportunities so that you get the result you want. The person controlling the process is you. The person responsible for finding your perfect job is you.
The person who must live with the outcome is you. So it's your choice: do you want to do it the passive way? Or do you want to do the opposite?

| Lowongan Kerja | Selling Yourself Well: How To Write A Resume Cover Letter

You are ready to apply to the job of your dreams. You have a thick, killer resume listing all your achievements and experience. You have a killer transcript showing all the marvelous grades you got on the way to a successful career. You have a resume cover letter that has enough bite to take your prospective employer by the neck and make him or her your slave forever.

What does that great resume cover letter look like? A resume cover letter should act as the complement, and not just the cover, to your transcript and resume. It should show your prospective employers what your resume and transcript cannot. Many prospective employers hardly hire new people merely on the basis of their educational attainment, or their breadth of experience. Prospective employers actually read the cover letter to gauge your personality and passion for the job.

How can such a small document do such a great thing? Believe it or not, your cover letter is actually a reflection of your personality. There is little you can do to a resume or transcript, but a cover letter's contents are entirely in your power. A resume cover letter, moreover, should show passion: achievements, without passion, can seem empty, and no employer wants a boring employee with no spark or fire. Show that spark or fire through your resume cover letter!

First, make your letter personal. Address it to the person who will hire you, and avoid addresses such as "Dear Madame or Sir," or "Dear Mr or Ms," or, "To whom it may concern." Such addresses should be reserved for legal documents or impersonal correspondence. Your cover letter should not alienate your recipient, and should show that you are applying exclusively to the company, not placing them in your personal slush pile.

Second, don't be afraid to list your achievements. Never sell yourself short: be confident in everything that you have achieved. After all, you worked hard to get where you are, right? However, don't gush about your achievements, as you already have your resume to back you up; and make sure that the company needs to hear what good things you have to say about yourself.

This brings us to the third point: do research about the company to which you are applying. You need to know a company's goals and vision, and use this information to write your resume cover letter. If your career goals are perfectly aligned with those of the company's, then you may soon be looking at a match made in heaven.

Fourth, be brief and direct to the point! Some na ve job applicants assume that managers and prospective employers are stiff beings with no hearts, minds, or senses of humor. Although this can be true for some managers, many prospective employers actually look for someone who has the excitement, enthusiasm, and passion for the job. However, they want to see someone expressing all this in four paragraphs or less. Your prospective employers' time is sacred, so save them a few minutes of their precious schedules by making a short cover letter that goes straight to the point.

Fifth, show how much you want to be interviewed. Provide all your contact information, and say that you are open to an interview and would appreciate being spoken with regarding the company and the job opening. If you show an active voice in your resume cover letter, you just might land the job.

Your resume is useless without the right resume cover letter. Your achievements can ring dull if you don't have the personality to back it up. Are you ready for that job application? Get that resume, transcript, and cover letter ready, and make them the best of their kind.

| Lowongan Kerja | Supervision: Letter to a New Manager

Dear Tommy,

Congratulations on your promotion. I'm flattered that you're asking me for advice, because even though I've devoted my life to studying this stuff, I figure you already got great advice your dad, who's one of the best managers I've ever known. Anyway, here goes.

Even though you are now a manager, you still have a boss. Part of your job is to help your boss succeed. And remember that it's generally a good idea to figure that it's your job to adapt to your boss and not expect your boss to adapt to you.

Learn how to update your boss in ways that are helpful. Learn how to handle documentation and paperwork in ways that protect your boss and your company, as well as yourself. You have two basic jobs. One is to accomplish the mission through the group.

The difference between being an individual contributor and being the boss is that last phrase: "through the group." If you're accomplishing the mission because you're doing the work, you're not doing what they're paying you for. You must accomplish today's job through the group. That means making sure that the most important things get done.

You must make sure that tomorrow's job gets accomplished. Part of that is helping your people grow and develop. Part of that is planning for the future.

You must handle the inevitable emergencies. Those are infrequent, but emotionally charged events. Prepare for them and deal with them effectively and they'll have a big positive impact on your reputation. Your other job is to care for your people. This is not soft stuff. Your people with their personal strengths do the work that you get credit for. Your team is your destiny.

Care for your people by helping them succeed. Make sure they have the resources to do their jobs well. Set clear expectations and check for understanding. Give them frequent and usable feedback, with as much legitimate, positive feedback as possible.

Care for your people by helping them grow and develop. Help your people discover their strengths and build on them. Help them prepare for the future. Care for your people by protecting them when necessary and dealing with their inevitable crises. Everyone has times when they're not productive for a whole variety of reasons. Part of your job as a boss is to protect them so they can produce another day.

Care for your people by getting rid of people who can't or won't do the job. People who don't produce, especially ones who complain and grouse, are corrosive. They eat at teamwork from the inside out. Help them move on as quickly as possible.

You probably figure that you'll master your new job quickly. You won't. My research and experience tell me that it will take you a year to a year and a half before you're comfortable in your management skin. Thanks for the question about whether you can hire me as a coach. The answer, of course, is "yes," but you may have enough resources right there around you.

Find experienced bosses to talk to. Start with your dad and any friends who've been bosses for a while. Talk things over with them. Get feedback.

Identify role models. Use them to work out how to handle a challenge.

Make it a habit to critique your own performance and to get as much feedback from others as is reasonable and possible. You'll learn more and develop faster if you get lots of feedback from as many sources as possible.

Congratulations again on your promotion. I hope this advice will help you and I know you've got the ability and desire to make real success for yourself. Sometimes you'll do everything right and things won't work out. Sometimes you'll get lucky and succeed when you shouldn't. Over the course of your career, though, you'll succeed if you do the right things most of the time.

One last thought. Always do the honorable thing. Even when it's hard. Even when it hurts. Keep your promises and treat people fairly.

Best of luck. Greet your father for me.

| Lowongan Kerja | Relocation Cover Letters: An Ounce Of Extra Challenge For The Job Applicant

Location, location, location! This is just about one of the most primary considerations when looking for a job. But what if your dream job is across the miles and somewhere beyond your immediate horizon? Maybe you are willing to take the plunge, leave your comfort zone and relocate as needed for this job. But here's one question: How do you convince the company that you are worth all the travel expenses and hassles for?

Clearly, there are about a gazillion amount of job seekers in any urban town. A company would most likely hire someone who is already within the vicinity. They need not really look elsewhere to get the employees they require for the job. Also, it is also less stressful for the hired people since they will have no traveling constraints or reasons for not being able to come to work that are related with transportation. This means a lot to a company. Do not be surprised if you find the company hesitant to hire you if you are still about to do relocation if you bag that job from them.

This is where an effective relocation cover letter comes in. You have a few "I am's" to put in your relocation cover letter if you are really intent on getting that job amidst the various obstacles placed in your midst. These "I am's" of relocation cover letters, when succinctly and effectively sprinkled on your relocation cover letter, will definitely get you that dream job.

I am qualified This is the most basic and essential I am for your cover letter. Show them that you are qualified for the job, and have proof to show them. Be it a training certificate, a list of testimonials from satisfied customers in the past or other paraphernalia to support your claim, show it along with your cover letter and resume.

I am an extra miler, literally and figuratively Show your client that you are not just qualified, but that you are willing to do more for the company in the ways you see fit. The fact that you can promise extra performance when needed even when not asked for communicates your willingness to take on the responsibilities the job demands, and an open mind of other working opportunities in the company. If you are indeed a multi-tasking and multi-skilled individual, this will not be too difficult for you to guarantee.

I am knowledgeable of your company's profile and operations This must come with the fact that you actually did your homework and learned as much as you can about the company before really applying. It is not just the company that you need to get yourself familiarized with, but it must also include the actual area of your work, the environment and cost of living there. No company would bother hiring a prima donna who did not do his or her homework prior to relocation.

I am able to count the cost of this job and I am willing to do it This can only work if you really did count the cost of the job: its requirements, its salary range, the demands on your time and energy, as well as possible weaknesses to adjust to. No job is perfect, and a relocation job may serve to be an extra hurdle for you if you are not well able to adapt and manage it properly.

I am willing to travel far and relocate as soon as possible This is very important. Time is of the essence. Most job offers last only a couple of days and the need is usually urgent.

| Lowongan Kerja | How To Ace The Interview

Interview Tips More Job Search Articles
A common goof of interviewees is that they might tend to get tense and forget the questions that are asked to them, often having the effect that they aren't prepared for the interview.

It is vital to check the firm's interviewer's firm and the applied position to prevent being side-tracked during the interview.

Don't know the answer?
If you do not know the answer to the questions being asked, it is best to own up that you do not know the answer to the asked question and add that you will find the answer.

Dig for the level of skill or experience that the firm is looking for so that when interview day comes and the interviewer asks about your skills and expertise, you shall be ready to match it to what the organization desires.

Gathering the necessary referrals
Having a referral from one of the company employees can go a long way toward landing an interview. A typical company may receive job applications in the hundreds and usually 35% to 60% of all job openings are filled by referrals. The odds of getting hired when you have a referral are very high even if there are another 200 to 500 job applicants vying for the same position. Even if you do not know anyone from the company that could give you a referral, it is a very good idea to go to the alumni network of your university, trade groups, social networks, and professional memberships.

Remember, owning a referral dramatically multiplies your chances of getting the perfect job.

Why Consider a Working Holiday?
It might not sound much fun working on your holiday, but volunteering vacations are not really about hard labor. They are more about helping out others and repairing communities. There are so many different communities around the world that need your help and so it is possible to travel absolutely anywhere and see new sights whilst at the same time you are really making a difference. There really is nothing better than helping somebody else to live a better life.

No matter what your skills there will always be something to suit you. Perhaps you are good at teaching for example? If so you may want to try going to a country such as Africa and help out teaching English to the children and adults? If you are better suited to building then there are many countries you could go to help with building work such as in poorer countries you could help to build wells and schools. Or maybe you would prefer to help to care for the elderly or work with people who have disabilities? Whatever you want to do, you will find an opportunity abroad to suit you.

In recent times natural disasters have truly rocked the world and in the areas which were most affected, volunteers are constantly needed to help to bring some kind of order to the country again. Cleaning up still needs doing and debris needs moving. Rebuilding of houses and buildings needs doing and there are still so many people who have to live without any shelter. There really is so much that can be done and lending a helping hand really can help out so many people.

Perhaps you would prefer to help wildlife instead? If so there are also plenty of wildlife volunteer groups who go all around the world helping sick, injured and abused animals. There are groups helping penguins, tigers, monkeys and whales and dolphins to name just a few. So do a little research and see whether there is anything that you could do to help out.Overall volunteering holidays are definitely worthwhile if you want to try out something different. So have a look at what skills you have and how you could help out and then see what is available.

| Lowongan Kerja | The Professional Cover Letter To Show The Professional In You

When you encounter the term professional, you might think about stiff men and women in pressed white cotton suits, tailored jackets, and expensive, uncomfortable shoes. You might imagine them to be in a boardroom, discussing a boring subject with even more boring tones. You could be hypnotized by their lifelessness, wooed to sleep by their austerity, and perhaps boggled by their deep words. For many na ve readers, professional is often equated with boring.

True professionalism, however, is far from being boring. It is being able to rise to the occasion and deliver quality work even before it is demanded. It is being able to think on your toes without losing your sense of tact, and with the same politeness as you would manifest in less exigent situations. It is being able to show excitement even when working on a potentially boring project - and being able to make anything boring exciting!

A professional cover letter, therefore, is not boring, deep, or stiff. It is written in an exciting but tactful tone, and it sounds exactly like you. In fact, the more natural the cover letter, the more convinced the prospective employer is that you are confident about your abilities and do not need language to conceal any weaknesses. A professional cover letter should also reflect the passion you have for your chosen career, and your personality. If you don't want boring friends, then what makes you think that your prospective employer would want boring employees?

A professional cover letter should have a personal touch to it. Before writing the letter, make sure you know exactly who will hire you: get the person's name, contact information, and position in the company. This will help you in making your address, and in showing the prospective employer how resourceful you can be. By finding out a person's name and keeping away from the generic "To whom it may concern," you have already won your prospective employer's attention. Keep the attention going by knowing the goals of the company, and showing that you are just the person to meet them. All companies have their own goals, missions, visions, and plans for change - and all this information is available on their online websites. Read all about the company to which you are applying: what makes it special? What products and services does it offer? Where does the company plan to be in the next five to ten years? Make your goals resonate with your prospective employer, and you could increase your chances of getting the job.

Retain the attention of your prospective employer by being brief and to the point. Enumerate your achievements and show why you are best suited for the job, but avoid gushing about anything or making promises that you are not sure you can keep. Remember that your prospective employer has to wade through tons of application letters, and is working on many other important projects and documents while he or she is looking at your cover letter. You need only a few words to make yourself heard, so use your powers of brevity and wit to win the prospective employer over.

End your letter with your signature, along with important contact information. Encourage the prospective employer to interview you: you want your letter to have an active, not a passive voice, which is what many employers look for in the people that they hire. Be sure, moreover, that your contact information is valid: your email address should be typed correctly, and you should be prepared to receive calls when they come in. A professional cover letter is not boring or staid at all. It is your chance to shine in the midst of all the other applicants for the job, so take your chance carefully and wisely. Show your wisdom, don't sell yourself short, and finally, be your professional self.

| Lowongan Kerja | Dream Job Map

A Dream Job Map will help you discover what you want in your work life. Follow the steps below and create your own map. It is a very useful tool and a lot of fun too !

How much time you spend on your map is up to you. Don't try to do it when you are feeling rushed or hassled. Set aside a quiet evening or a weekend afternoon.
- Get a very large piece of paper, glue and scissor

- Gather magazines, catalogues and newspapers

- Look for ideas, images, concepts, activities, experiences and words that speak to you or bring out good feelings. It could be a photo of an environment you would like to work in (art gallery, university, outdoors, an office with a large desk and comfortable leather chair) or an idea (working with children, being a writer) or an experience (making an audience laugh, organizing a filing system). Be creative !

- Make sure you put the "Yes, but how?" voices to one side while you answer these questions. Do not worry about whether they are realistic or not. Don't censor yourself with limitations. I know a lady who lives in Italy and she works as a flight attendant for a British airline company. She happily commutes from Rome to Heathrow for work !

- Cut out these photos / ideas / concepts which appeal to you

- Place and paste them on the paper in the way that you like

Now that you have created your unique Dream Job Map, answer the following questions (This might take a few weeks to complete):

- What have you learnt about yourself from looking at your Dream Job Map ?

- Do you see any work themes / patterns ?

- What career ideas can you come up with ? Write down 5 ideas. If you can't think of any, ask your family and friends to come up with some suggestions.

- Turn these ideas into job opportunities. Ask for help if you need it. Search on internet.

- How do you feel about these jobs ? Do they inspire you ?

- Which one gives you the most energy / motivation / enthusiasm ? Which one aligns mostly with your work values ? Choose one.
Note : For "Work Values", read my article on http://www.lifecoachingzone.com/page7.htm

- Include everything you know that supports this choice and everything that undermines it... You're moving towards making this happen, so you need to start with a full and true assessment of where you are. Whatever the obstacles, you need to find a way to deal with them! Do you need to learn a new skill to close the gap between reality and your vision ? Do you need to attend classes, learn a foreign language ?

- Make an action plan which will take you from where you are now to where you want to be.

- Think about the people in your life who can help you reach this goal, like mentors and friends. Think about how they can help, and contact them.

- Take action and monitor your progress. Enjoy each step and reward yourself !

| Lowongan Kerja | Biotechnology Careers in the United States

Biotechnology combines the study of biological sciences with technological advances to find solutions to important societal and scientific issues. Biotechnology is especially useful in research and development related to medicine and pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food production, forensics, wildlife conservation, and biological studies.
The field of biotechnology is the ultimate frontier of scientific and technological studies. Biotechnology can aptly be described as a subject that requires a multidisciplinary approach to innovation and development. Those in the industry study the basic elements of matter, such as tissues, cells, and even smaller components of life, to provide solutions to industrial and scientific problems. Currently, biotechnology is a multidisciplinary domain in the United States.
Therefore, diverse educational options exist in the field across the country.

There is a growing need to produce skilled graduates who can cater to the career-related demands of the industry. The key aim of biotechnology programs is to ensure core competence in the field of biotechnology. Diverse objectives include preparing researchers, managers, technicians, and other professionals to fuel the surge in the biotechnology industry. Biotechnology graduates may also elect to pursue higher qualifications in such fields as biophysical science, mechanical engineering, and computing.

Educational programs range from certificate and bachelor's degree programs to master's and doctoral degree programs. To cater to the managerial and leadership needs of the biotechnology industry, some universities offer dual degree programs as well. These programs include managerial preparation along with biotechnology training. Presently, the biotechnology industry offers a variety of career options for biotechnology scientists, agricultural scientists, general practitioners, forensic scientists, laboratory technologists, and veterinarians. More and more career options are opening up in the industry.

Biotechnology graduates with some experience can expect to find employment as bioinformaticians, consultants, and industry researchers. Biotechnology graduates with management skills can expect to find employment as biotechnology consultants and biotechnology directors. Although biotechnology has conventionally retained its identity as an academic domain, there is a growing demand for highly educated professionals in biotechnology businesses.

Presently, there are around 1,500 biotechnology companies in the United States. Together, their business totals more than $40 billion. There is a growing need to meet the growing demand for biotechnology professionals and qualified graduates produced by universities in the United States. However, most biotechnology professionals attuned to academic lifestyles are finding the change drastic due to industry expectations with regard to returns on investment.
Businesses cannot afford to lose good scientists with sound academic and research credentials. What is required is simply adaptation to the business aspects of biotechnology. Therefore, even if biotechnology scientists do not display entrepreneurial desires, a series of short-term training programs can help fill the gap between academics and business.
