How do you know if your job is a fit? There are numerous career assessments that match your personality, interests, values and aptitudes with the right job for you.
These tests are great for determining career fit.
But what about job fit? Jobs change. People change.
When is the last time you took an inventory of your job to see how well it fits you?
Take this Quiz to help you decide if your job is still a fit.
1. Do you feel appreciated and valued?
Many employees don't. In fact, this is the most often cited complaint among professionals today. The employer may not share your point of view and, if asked, might exclaim, "Of course, we value you highly!"
But if valuing you just means adding more to your plate, then it can be incredibly difficult to feel appreciated. You are more likely feel overworked, perhaps even close to burnout.
2. Are you given choice in important things?
Professional autonomy is precious to most career-minded individuals. So is being involved in the decision-making process for any issues of importance to your job. If decisions are being made about you, your job, your work, your department or your role in the organization without your input, then your professional autonomy is compromised.
3. Do you appreciate and admire the people you work with?
This is another critical element of job satisfaction for professionals. Are you and the other members of your team compatible? If you are, then your level of job satisfaction is likely high and the job is a good fit for you. If not, you might want to look around for a team or a company that better complements your particular work style.
4. Are you and your employer philosophically attuned?
Every organization has a unique corporate culture. Does your employer share your values, ethics, attitudes and beliefs? This is a top item for many service professionals.
5. Are you challenged?
Complacency is not only a career killer, but a job satisfaction killer, as well. If you've been "on track" for some time and doing a "good job", check to make sure that your track hasn't turned into a rut. If it has, your job will no longer bring out the best in you and it's time to consider a change.***
