Achieving Goals - Harness the Best Resources

Achieving Goals - Harness the Best Resources
By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD
Physical stamina is as important to achieve your goals as emotional and mental stamina. You might notice that when you are working diligently on a project, whether, it is an hour project or several weeks that your physical stamina sometimes drops. This drop in physical stamina is the outward indication that your emotional and/or mental stamina has faltered.

Being able to endure the challenges you face needs to be managed with Mind, Body and Spirit-Mental, Physical and Spirit. You need to create a balance between the three to have staying power. It can be easy to focus on your body when you are determined to get things done--ie. working harder. However, we know that working harder does not necessarily create the reasonable return on investment. It is working smarter that makes the difference.

You need to use the power of your mind and spirit to keep you motivated, focused and energized. If you sense your energy lagging, you will notice body signs. You need to reflect upon the things you do physically to recharge, such as exercising, taking a walk, drinking water, juice or having a power snack. As you become more aware of your body's reactions, you will notice your thought patterns. Is your self-talk self-defeating or do you champion yourself to do better? Aligning your body's needs with a positive mental response will enhance your ability to focus and carry on with enthusiasm and renewed physical energy.

Creating balance between your physical, mental and spiritual power enables you to maintain your endurance for as long as you need it. Relying solely on your body or mind to keep you going means you use only part of your resources. If you continue to rely only on your body or mind, you will wear yourself down and lose your ability to focus.

Using your mind and spirit to assist you in your tasks, however, gives you an additional source of power that contributes to your optimum strength, concentration and fortitude. This is precisely what affirmations create. Affirmations reaffirm that you are capable and have the strength and courage to succeed at any task. Your mind [thought] is what drives your body, either, positive or negative.

Every thought you have is a creation-positive, negative or neutral. Create positive and wise thoughts. By creating positive and wise thoughts you are increasing your stamina through your mind, body and spirit. Therefore, you will achieve your goals more easily and effortlessly. And it goes without saying with less angst.

Motivation Solution - Give Your Motivation a Boost - Remember That Practice Makes Permanent
By Denise Hart
I'm sure you've heard the saying that practice makes perfect, right? Well, I don't believe there's any perfection and instead of shooting for perfection, I'm an advocate of practicing those things you want to make a permanent part of your thinking, behaviour and life style success.

If you want to become better at anything you have to practice it.

When I was a basketball player I loved to shot the layup shot. The rhythm of the shot came relatively easy to me and plus I really enjoyed the flair and the beauty of the shot so I took to it quickly and was quite good at it. I had to put in very little practice to make this shot a permanent part of my basketball behavioral success.

Now the free throw shot didn't come so easily. For some reason it was my most difficult shot. I had to practice and practice that shot hundreds of times to improve. It was a mystery, because the shot seemed to be so simple, but yet I had to practice the rhythm and the steps of the shot along with the required focused thinking over and over again until one day as if by magic, I started to make free throws with fluidity. The rhythm and thinking had become a permanent part of my thinking through practicing them. Obviously this caused my free throw percentage to improve tremendously!

The approach of practice to make it permanent works just as well for changing your mindset and thinking in any given area. This is the principle behind reciting positive affirmations. You have to speak the affirmation and practice it over and over until it becomes a permanent part of your thinking and how you see yourself and your life.

If you've been wasting time aiming for perfection just stop. Instead, to boost your motivation, begin the art of practice makes permanent and be very selective about what you do practice because it will stick with you for life!

Stay Focused on the Road
By Elisa Sterling-Cowan
The other day while on the road, we were heading to a friends house only minutes away and it turned into a road trip! We had nothing to pick up along the way. We were prepared to just arrive in a timely manner and enjoy the company of our friends.

I learned a gleaned a lesson on this road trip about being in a positive mindset, and focusing on your goal. Many distractions come into our lives for one reason or another and I believe that how we handle each encounter gives us the opportunity to either be strengthened and encouraged or weakened and discouraged.

The situation took a negative turn and it lead to being distracted from what we were in the process of doing, getting from point A to point B. Instead of regaining focus and getting back on track, it lead into a lengthy drive to the edge of where we could go before we found the road to get back on again and get to where we wanted to be. Although we knew the map of where we were, we were still lost since we were not actively driving to where we wanted to go. More missed exits, and still proceeding on in the wrong direction, further and further away from the desired destination.

Each exit was a choice and opportunity. And each time the choice was made to not take that opportunity it lead to further discouragement, frustration, and distraction. Eventually when we arrived at where we were going, the residue of the "road trip to the edge" still lingered and it took a while for us to warm up to others and share in the celebratory experience. We were driving to a party after all! But it was as if we walked in wounded, limping and in pain. The drive from where we were at would have taken about 7 minutes......we arrived half an hour later with gained wisdom and experience of what not to do. It is important to focus on the tasks at hand and to keep your thoughts positive as it helps to maintain the focus.

So as we drive through the rest of our lives, I am going to keep my eye on where I am driving, with a smile on my face and my destination in mind. But when I get off track, I will make sure to get back on again and share my experiences with others so that they may be helped with that wisdom to walk a straighter path.
