Padahal di Amerika, malah ada orang-orang yang pekerjaannya khusus membuat surat lamaran! Kenapa begitu? Soalnya, surat lamaran itu vital. Dari situlah dapat terbaca seberapa besar minat kita terhadap pekerjaan yang kita lamar. Dan seberapa kompeten kualitas diri kita untuk menduduki posisi tersebut.
Surat lamaran sebaiknya:
- Impresif. Tidak terlalu menyombongkan diri, dan tidak terlalu merendahkan diri.
- Menarik minat calon atasan.Begitu dibaca, orang langsung tertarik untuk mengetahui lebih lanjut seperti apakah anda.
- Menyebutkan kualifikasi yang diraih.
- Mengunakan bahasa yang enak dibaca, ringkas, jelas, dan padat.
- Hindari pengulangan kalimat tanpa penjelasan, penggunaan kalimat tidak efektif, ejaan yang salah, maupun pengunaan tata bahasa yang buruk. (bila perlu, beli buku yang berisi contoh-contoh surat lamaran).
- Hindari mengunakan bahasa Inggris(jika tidak diminta)apabila anda merasa bahwa kemampuan bahasa Inggris anda kurang baik.Daripada ketahuan salahnya, lebih baik gunakan bahasa Indonesia saja.
- Cantumkan tujuan dan alas an anda melamar.
- Jangan sampai surat lamaran anda memberikan kesan kotor, seadanya.gunakan kertas yang bagus, bersih dan rapi, tidak usut, tebal, tidak mudah robek.Hindari tipp-ex.Tinta juga jangan terlalu tipis supaya mudah dibaca.
- Menggunakan komputer.Memang ada beberapa perusahan yang meminta agar surat lamaran ditulis dengan tangan.Tetapi jika tidak diminta,lebih baik jika anda mengunakan komputer.Gunkakan pula printer inkjet atau laser.(jangan pulamemakai printer dot matrix).
Dengan demikian anda tidak terlihat buta teknologi.
