Gunakan Referensi
Untuk memudahkan mencari pekerjaan, seseorang kerap meminta referensi dari orang lain. Asian Wall Street Journal mengungkap cara-cara yang baik untuk berhubungan dengan para pemberi referensi.

1. Kenali sang pemberi referensi.
Jangan menaruh satu nama pengusaha besar agar surat lamaran Anda mengesankan, padahal ia tidak terlalu mengenal Anda.

2. Mintalah izin.
Sebagian besar orang ternyata kaget karena seseorang telah memasukkan nama mereka sebagai pemberi referensi. Sebaiknya mintalah izin untuk memasukkan nama orang yang dapat memberi Anda referensi. Lebih baik lagi bila ada 3-6 orang yang siap memberi referensi.

3. Beri informasi selengkapnya pada sang pemberi referensi.
Ketika meminta izin, ambil waktu 15 menit untuk menceritakan kondisi Anda. Bicaralah terus terang tentang lamaran kerja Anda, jenis pertanyaan yang mungkin ditanyakan pihak perusahaan, dan apa yang Anda lakukan akhir-akhir ini.

4. Perbarui data-data alamat mereka.
Ketika berbicara dengan sang pemberi referensi, pastikan Anda memiliki alamat, nomor telepon, perusahaan, dan jabatan mereka yang baru. Sungguh menyebalkan menghubungi nomor telepon yang telah berganti pemilik dan alamat-alamat lama.

5. Carilah orang-orang yang dekat.
Jangan lupa, batasi pencarian terhadap sang pemberi referensi hanya di kawasan dekat. Memang tampak eksotis bila mencantumkan pemberi referensi yang berada di Moskow dan Tokyo, misalnya, tapi ini bakal menyulitkan Anda sendiri akhirnya.

Di zaman serba instan, internet adalah satu cara komunikasi yang terbilang sangat efektif. Namun, ada etika yang harus dipatuhi untuk berkirim surat elektronik via internet.

1. Ketika tidak ada yang dibicarakan, jangan mengatakan apa-apa.
Di jalan, bila seseorang berbicara pada Anda, etika menuntut Anda harus merespons. Tidak demikian dengan surat elektronik.

2. Cek selalu, tapi jangan terikat.
Agar tidak terlalu terganggu, biarkan e-mail menumpuk. Periksalah satu atau dua kali sehari.

3. Hindari kata-kata yang membingungkan.

4. Bila mungkin pakailah kata-kata singkat, tapi jangan kasar.

5. Pastikan agar dapat merespons dengan cepat.
Banyak organisasi yang menyebutkan mereka dapat ditemui kapan saja, di mana saja. Namun, faktanya banyak klien yang kecewa. E-mail tidak dibalas sampai berhari-hari bahkan hingga berminggu-minggu.

6. Tahu saat harus menelepon ketimbang berkirim e-mail.

7. Hati-hatilah saat bercanda. Pastikan Anda tahu kapan waktunya bercanda. Bila tidak, lebih baik jangan coba-coba.


PEMASARAN
Meraih Sukses
Untuk memperoleh sukses besar dalam pemasaran ada kiat-kiat khusus hanya dengan cara 'menjadi diri sendiri'. Inilah strategi itu:

1. Perencanaan.
Ini termasuk strategi tunggal paling penting untuk meraih sukses.

2. Positioning.
Ini merupakan rahasia mengubah pendekatan pemasaran Anda sehingga para klien mendekati Anda ketimbang Anda harus bersusah-payah mengejar mereka.

3. Persiapan.
Jangan pernah ditolak lagi. Anda akan mencintai strategi ini karena Anda makin percaya diri dan benar-benar merasa gembira karena Anda tidak lagi perlu berjualan.

4. Produktivitas.
Anda akan mengetahui mengapa 'tidak menjual' akan menghadirkan Anda lebih banyak uang dan sukses ketimbang yang pernah Anda bayangkan hanya dengan meningkatkan produktivitas.

5. Daya tarik.
Temukan rahasia yang terbilang murah untuk dikenal dan agar terus diingat orang. Cara ini selalu berhasil tiap waktu.

6. Promosi.
Ini cara terbaik untuk mendapatkan jumlah calon pembeli terbesar dengan upaya yang paling minim dan jumlah uang terendah.

7. Bermitra.
Ambil manfaat dari strategi bermitra ini. Hanya wiraswasta yang terampil dan sukses yang menggunakan kiat ini, termasuk juga perusahaan-perusahaan besar dunia.

8. Tekad baja.
Ini cara mengubah frustrasi dan kegagalan menjadi sukses berulang, dan sekaligus menggandakan pendapatan Anda jauh dari bayangan Anda. berbagai sumber/neh. ***

Embellished Resumes - A Real Problem

Take the jobseeker in Alabama who, knowing that his IQ was far above average and that in the course of his life had learned valuable skills allowing him to function at a very high level, embellished his resume by adding a doctorate that he had never earned. And knowing that because he had never graduated from college or earned a degree he was forever kept away from the best jobs and the highest salary.

So it seemed only a little white lie to add Phd., to the academic credentials on his resume. After all he could talk the talk and walk the walk in his defense industry specialty. The gentleman was so wrong in any high security position a background check will be a priority and he, of course, did not survive his. Now, he may have had a good job for a short time, but because of this indiscretion, could be forever ruined in that industry. Fortunately for him, his employer did recognize his value and decided to keep him on and send him to school. This story has a happy ending but it is certainly the exception rather than the rule.

The truth is, lying on your resume is just plain stupid, and ranks right up there with the other 10 most stupid things people do in their lifetimes. In fact, lying at any time is the single act that gets most people in the most trouble - trouble in work, in relationships, trouble everywhere. If you have weaknesses in your work history, references, or credentials before you lie about it consider that a skilled resume development specialist can assist you in highlighting what you can do, have done, and will do well for an employer. A job application is a document that may never go away, they can remain on a persons record the entire length of their work life. Make sure that you understand how to fill them out properly. Once again a skilled career specialist can assist you in answering questions on an application in the most positive light without dredging up old issues that you may not want to deal with today. Employers will almost always hold an employee responsible for entries on an application regardless of the circumstances.

The bottom line is don t lie about your ability, background or credentials, certainly paint the best possible picture of yourself, but don t go over the line it just isn t worth it.
