Teks sangat membantu pemirsa televisi untuk memahami dialog yang dilakukan oleh aktor-aktor pada suatu film. Pada sebuah adegan film sering kali dijumpai ucapan yang kurang sopan atau bahasa slank yang disampaikan para pemerannya.

Karena itu, pemberian teks yang tepat, menggunakan bahasa yang sopan, mudah dipahami menjadi suatu yang penting. ''Jadi, penerjemah itu harus sering menonton film supaya tahu perkembangan bahasa negara lain,'' kata Yolanda Susanto, penterjemah film asing di RCTI. Sebelum menerjemahkan seorang penterjemah harus menyaksikan film dahulu sampai habis. Ini sangat membantu dalam memahami jalan cerita film, nama tokoh dalam film, memeriksa audio film dan time code (durasi pembicaraan para pemainnyaI. Sehingga, proses penerjemahan bisa dilakukan dengan lancar dan selesai dalam waktu yang ditetapkan.

Wanita yang telah 10 tahun menjadi penerjemah ini juga menyatakan proses penerjemahan sebuah film yang berdurasi sekitar dua jam rata-rata bisa selesai sekitar empat hari. Seorang penerjemah pada prinsipnya harus bisa menerjemahkan film jenis apa pun yang diberikan oleh stasiun televisi kepadanya, termasuk acara talkshow, atau konser musik. Proses penerjemahan bisa dilakukan di studio televisi atau di rumah. Bila dilakukan di rumah, maka alat yang diperlukan berupa televisi, VHS player, dan headset. Sebagai tambahan seorang penerjemah dapat menggunakan komputer untuk mengetik naskah tulisan yang disimpan dalam disket. ''Nantinya di studio akan diedit ulang oleh editor untuk dicocokkan dengan dialog film apakah kepanjangan atau tidak, dan sebagainya,'' kata Rizky A Nasution, penerjemah di salah satu stasiun televisi swasta. Lowongan pekerjaan subtitel atau penerjemahan biasanya hanya berlaku di luar negara yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris.

Lowongan penerjemahan bisa dilakukan dengan menggunakan teks, atau dubbing (sulih bahasa). Namun, kini di Indonesia film Barat lebih banyak menggunakan cara subtitel dalam proses penerjemahan. Seorang penerjemah harus bisa menerjemahkan bahasa asing ke dalam bahasa Indonesia di ruang yang terbatas di layar kaca. Karena itu, ia harus bisa mencari kalimat yang sederhana namun efektif sehingga bisa dipahami penonton televisi dengan mudah. Lowongan pekerjaan yang cukup menantang adalah saat membuat teks film drama yang sarat dialog. Pekerjaan ini perlu waktu lama dan harus dikerjakan secara hati-hati karena setiap pemainnya selalu bicara. Kendala lain adalah date line (perubahan jadwal penayangan) yang membuat pekerjaan harus segera diselesaikan. Namun, kendala yang dihadapi umumnya masih bersifat teknis. ''Rata-rata film yang diterima memberikan waktu sekitar dua minggu sebelum ditayangkan,'' kata Yolanda.

Dalam sebulan seorang penerjemah mampu menerjemahkan antara lima dan 10 berbagai jenis film. Jumlah tersebut bergantung masing-masing keinginan penerjemah. Dan, hal itu berpengaruh pada penghasilan yang diperoleh seorang penerjemah. Seorang penerjemah freelance (lepas) umumnya bisa memperoleh pemasukan antara Rp 1 juta dan Rp 2 juta per bulan. Lowongan menjadi seorang penterjemah bukan berarti harus memiliki latar belakang pendidikan formal bahasa Inggris. Yolanda menekuni lowongan profesi ini sejak menimba ilmu akuntansi di salah satu universitas swasta di Jakarta. Demikian halnya dengan Rizki yang berlatar belakang jurnalistik. ''Hanya saja, waktu itu ada lowongan tes menjadi penterjemah dan lulus akhirnya menjadi freelance sampai sekarang,'' kata Yolanda. ***

Success at Work: Techniques : Taking Initiative

Do you have to constantly nag at your kids to do things? Why can't they clean up their mess and get ready for school without being told? Now think about your lowongan boss at work. Does your boss always have to tell you what to do. Does your boss have to treat you like a child, or do you take initiative?

Employees who need to be lowongan told what to do are said to be "reactive". They do something only after the boss tells them to, or after the need to do something has been pointed out to them.

Employees who do what has to be done and solve problems before they arise are said to be "proactive". Bosses like employees that are proactive and willing to take initiative.

There are many advantages to taking initiative at work:
- By taking initiative you'll gain skills and learn more about your company and the market it serves.
- You'll be less bored at work lowongan because you won't be stuck in the same old routine.
But before we learn more of the advantages, let's consider some of the dangers of taking initiative at work.
- Is the problem within your area of responsibility? By taking initiative with a lowongan problem that is outside your area of responsibility you could be trespassing on some else's turf.
