5 Easy Tips to Set Your Intentions For 2009
By Gladys M. Anderson
"You don't have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great." - Les Brown
If 2009 finds you exactly where you were in 2008, would you be okay with that?
Dragging your feet, mulling over your next step, and waiting could find you in 12 months/365 days from now exactly where you were last year.
But what if 2009 was different...
Would you reach your goals, achieve your dream, live the life you truly want and deserve?
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different result is the definition of insanity not wisdom. Sustained action and knowing that no matter what's going on around you, you can be centered, in control and can make the changes that will create the life of your dreams.
Now is the time to embrace thoughts of success, joy and create a plan to live your best life in 2009. Here are some suggestions:
1. Create a vision for your life's desires - Allow your imagination to soar. Don't censor yourself. Look at your life now. Have you achieved all you desire? What do you want most - a new career, home, joy, happiness, a business? Whatever you desire, you can have it if you believe you can have it and are willing to put forth the effort required to change and grow. White down your vision in detail. Don't stop to analyze how or when. Once you have written as much as you can think of, review the list and select 1-3 things you really want to focus on.
2. So as to not get overwhelmed, put your energy, focus and commitment towards one thing on your final list. That way, if you remain committed and consistently taking action steps, you will soon achieve your goal and will have gained momentum and confidence to proceed to your next goal. Then you are ready to take on another goal...and another until you achieve what you want.
3. Create S.M.A.R.T. goals:
* S = Specific - A specific goal includes "what, why and how" For example, what is my goal? Why do I want to accomplish it and how will I accomplish my goal? A general goal would be, "lose weight". But a specific goal would be to exercise 5 days a week or take 3 inches off my waist.
* M = Measurable - Establish measurable action steps to reach your goals. If your goal can't be measured, it is difficult to stay headed in the right direction and reach your intention. Think of measurable as small incremental steps you take towards your goal.
* A = Attainable - When your goals are important to you, opportunities to achieve your goals will become more evident as you plan your steps and establish time frames to achieve your goals. Losing 15 pounds in a week is not an attainable goal but committing to lose 1 pound a week for 15 weeks is achievable.
* R = Realistic - A realistic goal is one for which you have the skills, a plan of action and something that you have the capability and resources to carry out. Ask yourself; is this a realistic expectation for me at this time? Are you in the right mindset to achieve this goal?
* T = Timely - You must set a timeframe. Without a timeframe, you have a wish not a goal. If you want to lose 15 pounds, you must set a date by which you want to lose the weight. For example, I will lose 15 pounds by April 15. Or, I will lose a pound a week for 3 months.
4. Surround yourself with positive people - This is not the time for naysayers and negative influences. You want people around you who can support, encourage and uplift you. Seek out a trusted friend or a coach who will hold you accountable.
5. Take control of your mindset - You have complete power over what you think. And if you think you can't, then you can't. Speak positively to yourself. Do not allow limiting thoughts to enter your mind. Dismiss them immediately and always replace them with what IS possible.
6. Make 2009 the year of change and possibility. Your life can be the beginning of the change you want to see in your world. Using all your energy, talents and brilliance to create the life you want and deserve is the gift the universe wants to bestow upon you. Will you accept or discard this gift?

7 Tips For High Motivation Levels
By Anthony D Carter
With the proper motivation your productivity soars. Without it there is little desire to do anything. You don't have to be at the mercy of motivation levels that are high one day and low the next. Here are 7 tips for high motivation levels.
Use the Power of Expectation- Go about doing every task with the expectation of it being successful. It is easier to get going when you believe that your work will yield positive results. Expectation is an ability that is well within your control. It is the opposite of what you do when you worry. Worry causes us to draw back. When we are worried it makes us want to take a passive approach to our work because we don't believe what we are doing is going to work. Expectation propels us into action. When you expect good results to come from your work you are motivated to do that work.
Use Solid Planning- Make good plans. Good planning gives you confidence. You know when you take action it has been formulated to give you success. That knowing gives you the motivation to step out and do what you need to do.
Stick to It- Keep doing what needs to be done even when you feel like quitting. Consistently apply the necessary work until you experience your desired outcome.
Don't Wait, Do- Rather than waiting to be inspired go ahead and do the work. The mere act of starting will give you energy and excitement. You will gain motivation by taking the initiative.
Get Up- When you get knocked down get back up. Be like a child that is learning to walk. Just because she falls down she doesn't stay there. She keeps trying. She maintains her enthusiasm for walking. Eventually after much trial and error the child learns to walk. Going after goals should elicit the same type of determination. You will not continue failing if you keep trying. Your continued effort will eventually yield positive results. Use this thought to motivate yourself to keep going until experience the desired outcome.
Get the Action Habit- Make action the first impulse. When faced with a challenge think to yourself,"What can I do right now to remedy this situation?" Then do what comes to mind. Motivation follows action. It is not the other way around.
Celebrate Success- As you overcome obstacles and challenges celebrate. Get excited about growth and improvement. Whatever gets rewarded gets repeated. The more you make a big deal out of your successes the more you will want to duplicate the actions that caused them.

3 Barriers to Staying Motivated
By Anthony D Carter
Motivation helps us go after our goals with excitement. When our motivation level is low our work habits suffer and so do our results. Here are three barriers to staying motivated.
Barrier 1- Fear and Doubt - These are the twin pillars of failure. Fear paralyzes us if we let it. Then we doubt whether any action that we take will work. Imagining the worst case scenario before attempting to do something causes hesitation. That hesitation develops into an excuse for not stepping out and doing what needs to be done. When this scenario plays out it stops us dead in our tracks.
Doubt works the same way. When we are uncertain about our goals we don't take action. We don't see a reason to. What is the use of taking action if we feel there is a good chance of failure.
If you want to stay motivated then fight through the fear and doubt. Take action even in the presence of fear. Do so long enough and the fear will cease being strong enough to stop you.
Combat doubt in much the same way. Trust that your goal is good. Keep taking action until your doubt fades. The more correct action that you take the more positive results that you will see. As you experience positive results your belief goes up and your doubt diminishes.
Barrier 2 - Complacency - Being satisfied with status quo is a barrier to being motivated. it is counter productive to set a goal to lose weight and two days later say' "You know, I don't look too bad. I think I'll start that diet next month." This destroys initiative.
Strive to finish what you start. Never tolerate mediocrity. If you see an area in your life that you want to change then set a goal to change it. After that carryout your plan to make those changes. Do not let yourself off the hook. Don't settle for anything less than your best effort. Apply this approach and you will find that the more you do, the more you will want to do.
Barrier 3 - Procrastination - Putting off what needs to be done only makes that task harder in your own mind. Procrastination creates a barrier to motivation by creating an illusion that one day things are going to get done. In reality "one day" never comes and nothing gets done. Instead of thinking I'll do it when I get around to it say,"I'll do it now." Developing the "I do it now" mindset increases your initiative, accomplishments and motivation.
