How College Students Can Reduce Financial Stress

How College Students Can Reduce Financial Stress
By Luka Dobravc
When students come to college their life changes drastically, they are under constant pressure because they are expected to become more responsible and independent. While students are already very stressed because of studying activities and transition to adulthood, things become even worse when it comes to complicated financial situations which confront them with additional pressure generated by financial stress.

It is hard for student to keep up with the studies and have a regular full-time job at the same time, because you cannot do two things good at once. If student works too much then studies are neglected and the other way around. This conflict of interests and lack of time to perform both only results in more stress instead of reducing it. That is why it is good to know all the possible ways of reducing financial stress on college and that regular job is not the only option that could solve problems.

Some useful tips to reduce financial stress of college students

* Stay away from credit cards - It seems that credit and debit cards have become the necessity of every student inventory, we could almost say having a credit card became a popular trend. But what most students are not aware that even if they have the credit card for emergency purposes only, there are always situations when they will get carried away and they will feel the necessity to pay for the dinner, new clothes or some other non-emergency purchase which will be paid from nowhere else than our credit card limit. This type of spending always occurs when credit card is at hand, so student has to try to avoid having any type of credit card. Always spend what you actually have, not what you will probably have in the future.
* Ask your family and relatives for financial support during your studies. When it comes to education some parents are really reasonable and they will willingly contribute for your studies. Others will rather lend you some money and expect a return when you get employed and we could say that even this is better option than taking student loan or using credit cards. This type of financial support is important factor in reducing student financial stress on college, because relatives can assure financial security to some amount but remember that everything has its end and sooner or later you will have to become financial independent.
* Take some time and check all existing scholarship options and available financial aid programs for students. Do not let your low self-confidence keep you away from at least trying to apply for scholarship or financial aid. Try it, you cannot lose anything, give it a shot, who knows maybe you succeed. The time you spend for application is nothing compared to what you can gain from getting scholarship or financial aid. Getting some kind of financial injection can help you greatly in avoiding financial stress.
* Use your summer vacations rationally. Instead of spending whole summer vacations doing nothing and just relaxing try to get some job and earn some money for the upcoming year. Usually short-time employment is paid better and less boring, try to find some seasonal work and start earning money. All the time spent earning money during vacations will pay off during the year because you wont have to worry about your budget and thus you will avoid being stressed.
* Design a budget plan and hold on to it. At first this may seem a bit unnecessary goal but if you look at it closer you will discover that by having a budget you will spend much less because your spending will be limited. Consider all monthly expenses and incomes then make sure that you always keep a positive balance, even if that means that you miss some parties or that you buy less clothes every month. Keeping positive balance is already half way on eliminating financial stress of college students. So keep in mind to make sure that your budget covers all the necessary expenses and then you will see how much money you have left for luxuries. Having a planned budget and not following it will show no results, therefore it is important to stick to it. You should consider what you want or what you wish and forget about the things you cannot afford.
* Start thinking and spending rationally - Use all the discounts available, start buying more carefully and compare the prices. Spare as much money as possible when purchasing new items. Get the coupons and use them, you probably laughed at old people doing that but in time of necessity rationality is unavoidable. By being a rational consumer you will put less pressure on your budget and by that reduce the financial stress that affects you.
* Take it easy with the nightlife - This does not mean that you have to party less, you just have to do it less intensively. Limit the amount of booze you drink, stop before you get drunk because we all know that once the booze is in our head our wallet empties easily. Control how much you drink and stop before you think it is enough, buying drinks and going to the parties can have a severe consequences on your budget and thus generate financial stress. Apart from that alcohol also negatively affects our health and our academic performance which results in further increase of stress.
* Think about your future - This is one of the last but very important tip to reduce financial stress on college. Even if you are worried about your current finances or your spending capabilities, you always have to have in mind that you are studying for the future. It is obvious that now you have to study more and put the money on the second lane. Even if you cannot afford the best clothes or a brand new car, do not be distracted by such depressing thoughts. Think of how much you will gain from proper education and how much money can this bring you later. Every missed or avoided spending opportunity will be paid off in the future by many times of its value, just make sure that you get the proper education and when you get a job the money will start coming in. Always have the future in mind and the current pressure financial stress will be reduced.

We all have to know that living college life can be very stressful no matter how we look at it. But it has its advantages because it serves as a preparation for adult life when we have to deal with all the pressure on our own. Stress is also known as mental restlessness and it causes terrible damage to your overall health. That's why when you experience stress it's critical to relieve it immediately and don't stay stressed.

Life is full of problems, negative people, difficult situations, circumstances and happenings and unexpected events. As long as you are alive, you'll always have and experience the ones above. No matter what you do, you'll encounter problems, negative people, difficult situations and so on.

But, the way you respond to life's challenges can lead to severe stress or great peace. So, the way you react to everything that happens to you, determines how you feel and ultimately what kind of life you're living...an awful life full of stress, tension, grief and sorrow or an extraordinary one full of happiness, joy, prosperity and peace.

'What is stress?'

Stress represents the way you react to everything that happens to you. If you do not have the right attitude and the right perspective about life and happenings, you'll always be stressed, tensed, worried, unhappy and sad.

All it takes to be happy, have peace and enjoy life is to have a positive attitude and a great perspective about what happens to you. It's as simple as that! It's not that hard to look on the bright side of things and see an opportunity in every difficulty.

This is why in this article we want to talk about relief for stress and what you can do to avoid it.

Each year more people are getting poor report cards from their primary doctor. One of the biggest reason is because of stress. This silent killer ease into our body usually from the outside. As we already mentioned the loss of a job, stress comes in through depression or the fear of loss. When this happens our body release excess cortisol which can interfere with weight loss and deposit fat around the abdomen area. This is why people sometime gain weight even though they're not eating much.

Examine your expectations

Some things we just don't have control of. Especially as we get older, we need to change our expectations because when we don't live up to certain expectations, we often add unwanted pressure which can lead to stress. Instead, try some type of exercise like walking or swimming; Something that is low key that won't put any more pressure on you. This is why we need to constantly make adjustments as we get older.

Learn to stay positive

Even though you may have lost your job, learning to stay positive will take you a long way. A lot of people surround themselves with negative talkers which can sometime turn to resentment. This is a feeling of bitter hurt or indignation, from a sense of being injured or offended. When these emotions get deep inside of you, your health goes down too.
