How to Win Control Over the Stress in Your Life

How to Win Control Over the Stress in Your Life
By Inese Millere
In the middle of the 20th century physiologist Hans Selye labeled our reaction to life's challenges with a simple word: stress. Now, 50 years later, there's a conversation you hear so often, it's almost a chorus: You ask a friend, "How are you?" and she replies, "I'm OK, but I'm feeling a little stressed."

In the 21st century, stress has become synonymous with life. Stress is associated with almost every aspect of our lives, personal and professional alike. Stress does however become a danger when it goes unrecognized, is poorly managed or becomes pent up over long periods of time.

For most women, stress ranks at the top of the list of daily problems.

What is the natural stress response?

Whenever we perceive we are physically or psychologically threatened an inbuilt, alarm-system in our brain triggers the adrenal glands to release complex hormonal cascade of over 30 stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol giving us the extra strength and speed we need to deal with the threatening situation. This reaction is known as the "fight-or-flight" reaction, or the stress response.
Stress isn't always bad. In small doses, it can help you perform under pressure and motivate you to do your best.

The problems start when you're constantly running in emergency mode, and you are unable to cope well with the stress in your life, your mind, body and overall health may pay the price.

If you frequently find yourself feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, it's time to take action to bring your life back into balance.

What can you do about stress?

The good news is that you can learn ways to manage stress. To get stress under control Take Action:

• Find out what is causing stress in your life.
• Identify your own stress symptoms.
• Find out your habitual ways of responding to stress.
• Look for new ways to reduce the amount of stress in your life.
• Learn healthier and more effective ways to relieve stress.

Dealing with stress is about dealing with change. I encourage everybody to consider working with a coach in order to reach the permanent stress management results.

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy For Stress Relief
By Inese Millere
Arguably, everyone in the whole world is under stress of some description.

Whatever causes your stress - work, family, or other worries - when the pressure gets too much we need to unwind and relax. Inhaling the essential oils can help to alleviate the inevitable stress, and attain an emotional balance, which are damaged in case of distress. A balanced emotional state in turn can have a therapeutic effect on physical problems, particularly those that are stress-related.

The therapeutic use of essential oils - aromatherapy -- is a widely acknowledged, effective way to reduce stress, and the use of appropriate essential oils has been shown by research to have immediate stress relief effects, raising mood, reducing anxiety and aiding focus and concentration.

Essential oils stimulate the powerful sense of smell and the part of the brain that affects our emotions.
The shape of an essential oil molecule is like a key that opens lock-like structure in the olfactory nerve receptors in the nostrils. The smells enter through cilia (the hairs lining the nose) to the limbic system. Stimulated limbic system releases chemicals that affect the central nervous system - the part of the brain.
In the brain, the oils can have many effects: promote memories or encourage feelings of relaxation, calmness, love, and excitement. These properties of essential oils make them so well suited to the treatment of stress-related conditions.

Aromatherapy massage is widely used treatment for stressed people. The natural and extremely small molecules of essential oils penetrate the dermis and get to work with their purity immediately. This massage works very well on the mind, as the person smells the oils during the treatment, so the effect of relaxation or alternatively, stimulation, can be enhanced.

Apart the massage, essential oils can be put into hot baths, candles or burners to diffuse scents throughout a room.

To treat stress, anxiety, tension, or mental fatigue, try any one or a combination of the following: basil, bergamot, Bomeo camphor, cinnamon, clove, cypress, eucalyptus, garlic, geranium, ginger, hyssop, lavender, lemon, marjoram, meroli, nutmeg, onion, peppermint, pine, rose, rosemary, thyme.

Take Action:

1. Choose the oils according to your needs.

2.Prepare hot bath -- ad some drops of chosen essential aromatherapy oils.

3. Put some relaxing music. Enjoy!!!

Make yourself a priority. You are your most precious asset.

Stress Nutrition Tips Simply to Follow
By Inese Millere
Some of you may wonder what on earth has nutrition to do with stress? Research has shown that nutrition not only affects our physical health but can also influence our stress levels too.

The human body is the greatest machine on the earth. Even more than that - greatest self-repairing machine. As all machinery, it needs fuel. But for self-repairing we need special fuel - one that provides us with all necessary macro and micro nutrients: healthy food. Unhealthy foods poison your body. That's not the worst of it. Your Body, Mind and Spirit are one and form a whole. So, where your body goes, your mind follows, just as where your mind goes your body follows.

A physically unhealthy body can influence the mind to be unhealthy, unmotivated, moody, tired, unclear, forgetful, anxious, and stressed. We all know these are not comfortable feelings.

And on the contrary: if our fuel is of high quality, our bodies function well and we think clear, we are full of energy, vitality, our overall health is excellent and we prosper. The fuel we give to our bodies' engine comes directly from food, from things we eat.

During the period of stress, the body uses up nutrients quicker than usual. Chronic long-term stress damages all body systems, digestive system included and reduces all body's nutrient reserves. Therefore here are some considerations to take into account when creating your daily diet and supplementation plan.

The key to of good stress nutrition is the balance, variety and moderation. To stay in good health the body needs the right balance of macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, fats and micronutrients: vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients and water.

Take Action:

1. Eat 5 -6 times per day to avoid unstable blood sugar levels and escape fat storage, and ensure stable energy levels. Low and stable blood sugar levels reduce not only stress but also the risk of adult type diabetes.

2. Aim for 7 to 10 servings per day of different types of organic fruit and vegetables. Colorful fruit and brightly green vegetables are perfect for stress prevention/ reduction nutrition - they are rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients.(eat them as much as possible and preferably raw or very lightly cooked). This is not as difficult as it looks :)

3. Eat foods with high fiber content. Eat both types of fiber: soluble and insoluble. This gives the muscles of the walls of the digestive system some bulk to work against.

3. Eat complex carbohydrates (oatmeal, buckwheat, whole-wheat bread, pasta and brown rice). Many whole grain foods rich in complex carbohydrates are good sources of essential vitamins and minerals as well. Foods rich in complex carbohydrates include also vegetables, peas, and beans. NB: one teaspoon of sugar or its equivalent suppresses the immune system for 5 hours after eating.

4. Protein is essential for growth, development and repair of body tissues. Although keep protein intake within moderation. Avoid red meat completely. Eat more beans and pulses, grains, seeds and nuts. Fish and organic poultry are also acceptable. Soya is also a good source of protein.

5. Fats Take fish oil for omega 3 essential fatty acids or eat oily fish 2 or 3 times a week. Eat a variety of seeds each day (pumpkin, sesame, sunflower and always linseeds) and walnuts . Mix them together and add them to cereal and salads.
