Inspiring the Leader in You

This article is for the leader in you. I invite you to take a moment and reconnect with what is precious to you. For who you are as a person is who you are as a leader. And our world needs inspired leaders now. So here's an easy heart-centered way to calm, inspire, and balance yourself. Practice it as often as you like. Enjoy your renewed sense of confidence, poise and grace.

Quick Coherence Practice - HeartMath Technique

3 Simple Steps:

1. Focus your attention in the center of your chest in the area of your heart.
2. Breathe naturally and normally, just a little deeper than you normally do. Feel your breath as if it's coming in and out of the center of your heart.
3. Maintain your heart focus and heart breathing and feel a positive emotion. Focus on something you appreciate in your life. Feel the love you have for someone who is dear to you. Continue your heart focus and heart breathing as you feel...the love or care you have for someone else, or your feelings of appreciation for the good things in your life, or your feelings when you feel satisfied.

Notice how your heart-centered feelings bring you effortlessly into the present moment. As you practice this technique, add an extra step that shares your positive emotions - your inspiration - with the world.

It's easy! After step 3, maintain the positive emotion you feel. Radiate that feeling outwards. Radiate it to the people in Italy whose lives have been turned upside down and who are feeling a deep sense of loss. Radiate your positive feelings to them for about a minute. This heart caring and focus can help ease their emotional trauma because in the field of consciousness we are all one - connected.

Find out more about how this works and the scientific research in which HeartMath has been engaged for 18 years. HeartMath's most ambitious and phenomenal global project yet is the Global Coherence Initiative.

Using Stories For the Unconscious Mind - Calico Cat and the Waterworks
By Edward Leyton M.D.
Once upon a time, far away, there was a place called Watertown. In Watertown all the people lived on water. Everyone, including the most important people, needed water to survive during the day. There was a special person named Elmira who was responsible for getting the water during the day so all the people would have enough to drink. This would give them lots of energy during the day to carry out all their duties properly. At night-time all the water was stored in a big tank, which had pipes coming from it to let any extra water out. If there was more water than was needed by the townspeople during the day, then Elmira could let the water out through the pipes, and it went into a special place.

All of a sudden, one night while Elmira was sleeping, the valves on the pipes started to breakdown, and water began to leak out. When Elmira woke up there was water all over the place and none in the tank! There was no water left for the townspeople, and they became very upset. As much as Elmira tried to gather enough water during the day, sure enough almost every night the water would leak out of the tank, and there would be none left for the townspeople the next day.

Since Elmira took her job very seriously, she knew she had to get help quickly. Now Elmira knew that the real expert in how the water got in and out of the tank was the Special Chief Master Engineer named Calico Cat. Calico Cat lived deep in the woods on the other side of town -- so off she set to find her. It was a long journey, because Calico Cat had retired, and even though she knew more about the waterworks than anyone else, she had long since decided to live in her house deep in the forest, and hardly spoke to anyone. At long last Elmira found Calico Cat. "What shall I do?" she said, "The water for the townspeople is leaking out at night, and there is no water left for them during the day." Calico Cat thought long and hard. Then she took out an old dusty book and began pawing through it, until at last she let out a big "Meow!! I have found it!". Calico Cat explained to Elmira that the valves needed fixing, and she told Elmira how to do it.

Elmira was so relieved. She trekked back through the forest, and worked along and hard through this very night to repair the valves. The next day she collected all the water she needed for the day to feed the townspeople, and put what was left over in the waterworks holding tank. Then she went to sleep easily and peacefully, knowing that she had completed her task. The next day she woke up and discovered that her plan had worked. The water had stayed in the tank all night long, and she had not lost a single drop! So the very next day she did not have to work so hard to collect more water, and she could let the townspeople have the water they need during the day, by opening the valves whenever she wanted. And best of all, she could go to sleep at night, knowing that she would not lose any water during the night.Once or twice she thought to herself that perhaps the valves might not work for very long, but days, weeks, and eventually months went by, and still the water stayed in the tank, and the townspeople had all the water they needed during the day.

They were so happy, there was much celebration in Watertown for many months to come. She was so thankful that she sent special message to Calico Cat to thank her for showing her how to stop the water from leaking out of the tank at night. Calico Cat purred with delight.

Stories have been told since humans began to talk. Their purpose can be everything from simple and light to meaningful and profound. Milton Erikson, probably the foremost medical hypnotherapist of our time, used metaphor or stories to access the unconscious mind in order to help people make changes in their behavior. Indeed, metaphor itself can often do just that. It seems to by-pass the conscious mind, even when the receiver is in a 'normal', non-hypnotized state.

As an integrative medical doctor I am always looking for ways to help patients that are more natural and non-toxic than some of the modern medical approaches. These stories were written with that in mind. The one above is for enuresis or bed wetting in children, but adults with incontinence have responded as well. The unconscious mind has no age barriers!

Read the story out loud to another person or to yourself. When you see the bold parts, emphasize these in the way you say them. Your unconscious will pick up the suggestion only if it is appropriate for you. The sit back and wait for the results!

The Average Consumer Can Apply These 4 Sales Techniques
By David Peve
These 4 sales skills or techniques are not just for sales people. I know not every one is a sales person and you don't have to be to improve your interpersonal effectiveness. What I mean, is every one possesses them already, they are the basic of sales techniques that the average consumer should learn and practice in their every day life. You can get more of what you want out of life by applying these positive skills.

I will start with Negotiate with Every One. Most people are afraid to to negotiate to improve their position in their every day life because they think it is only for lawyers, super sports agents, sales people, or maybe they think they are not any good at it. The best thing to do is practice how to negotiate in your every day life especially over the little things, this will give you confidence when the big purchases or events come along. Honing this skill, I believe, is the most important investment you can make toward improving your interpersonal effectiveness. Just use these 3 guidelines; One, Your objective is to meet in the middle - but on your side of the middle. Two, Remember to think of it as a kids game (this will help with #3) and have fun with it in a reasonable manner. Three, You have to remove your emotional involvement in what ever is the focus of your negotiations. Emotion always effects good judgement, and puts you at a disadvantage.

Next is Finding Common Ground. When you find common ground with people they will do anything and everything to help you. Sure, we all know that person that can make friends with anyone under any circumstance, but don't worry if that's not you. This is a skill because it can be learned - Not to be that type of person, but to get the things you want in similar ways. Here are 3 tips to applying this skill effectively; One, observe how they look. Clothing, surroundings, accessories, and how they carry themselves. Two, LISTEN - to how the talk, the words they use, etc. Three, Let Them DO THE TALKING -People love to talk about themselves. So by saying very little but encouraging a conversation, You will have made a new best friend that thinks your the nicest person in the world even though they don't know anything about you, but you will know plenty about them. Your new friend will assist you anyway they can.

This one might shock you - SMILING! Yes, it is a skill - people are absolutely more willing to help or take care of someone who is smiling, PERIOD! Compared to that person that looks like they want make your day worse, or that person with just an indifferent look about them. We have all heard, "You catch more flies with Honey"? Without a doubt! A simple well timed smile brings a little bit of joy to whomever you encounter. It's not easy to flash a genuine smile on cue or even wear one all day, with practice though you will see the positive effect it has on others, and more things will fall your way.

Finally, Make Eye Contact - Have you ever noticed how many people you pass by every day that can't, won't, or don't make even split second eye contact? Doesn't matter if it's a stranger (or people they know) on the street or at work. So how is this a skill? Many people have to train or force themselves to make eye contact. There are 2 things to be aware of here; Too Much eye contact can make you seem confrontational or creep people out. So when you find your comfort level it becomes an effective skill and cause others to pay attention to you, which in turn will help get what you need - done.

These 4 interpersonal skills when practiced will make your life easier. They will also save you time and money. We all like that, remember you already possess these skills you just have to practice by applying them through out your daily life.

David Peve has been a successful sales person for 18 years and counting, applying those skills in my every day life especially outside of work, so that my life is just that much easier.

Sales Skills are Survival Skills everyone can and should use. These skills will save you time, money, and peace of mind.
