Stress and Present Time Consciousness Or PTC
By Dr. Raymond Comeau
It would not be an overstatement to say that stress is today's public enemy number one. This is what leaders in stress research have to say, "Stress reaction is predicted to be the leading occupational disease of the 21st century, responsible for more days lost than any other single factor."
Almost everyone is adversely affected by stress to some degree. The good news is that there is something that we can do about it. There are many techniques that can be used in stress reduction such as yoga, meditation, sports etc... but there is one very simple and effective technique that is almost completely overlooked and that is, Present Time Consciousness or PTC.
PTC, though highly effective, is incredibly simple, and that may be its outdoing. People find it hard to believe that something so simple and easy to learn an use can so effective. PTC is a discipline where the practitioner strive to keep his mind focused on the present. Thus the appellation, Present Time Consciousness.
With PTC, the practitioner will not let his mind wanders unto the future. As soon as thoughts of what could happen in the future enter the mind, a conscious effort is made to get back to whatever the person is doing in the present.
The reason for that is simple. Most of the time, we don't fear what is happening now. We are dealing with it, so it is not the cause of great concern or stress. But, on the other hand, what could result from whatever is happening in the present can bring frightening scenarios of gloom and doom. And that is where most of the stress comes in.
PTC, like any other skill gets better with practice. At first, staying focused in the here and now can seem like an impossible task. However, after we have made a reasonable amount of effort to develop that skill, we get to be increasingly effective at it.
It is relatively easy to maintain Present Time Consciousness when we are involved in activities that require concentration. It is more difficult when we are involved in more mundane activities such getting dressed, doing some cleaning or mowing the grass. However, these are the best activities to practice PTC. And the way that it can be done is by caring about what we are doing.
When we care about something, we feel that it is important and we give it all our attention. So the secret is to threat everything that we do as if it was important. A disciplined mind can find as much satisfaction from cleaning pots and pans as it will solving an important problem. And the best part of that is that if we can care about menial tasks we will be even better at caring while involved in more complex endeavors.
So, to recapitulate, the best way to combat stress is to mentally stay in the present moment and the best way to stay focused in the present moment is really care about whatever it is that we are doing. The formula would then be: "Caring = Focus = No Stress".

Healing Fractals - The Mathematics of Nature
By Cathy Chapman, Ph.D.
When is the last time you watched the clouds, or looked in wonder at a forest or considered the amazing symmetry of the snow flake? If your childhood was lived before the computer age, you probably watched nature often.
Think of the patterns in nature you have observed. The veins in the back of leaf, the randomness of growth in the forest, even the conch shell you can hold to your ear to listen to the "ocean." Simply holding these images in the mind's eye helps relaxation.
Nature is filled with repeating patterns. The symmetry of a snowflake results from the repeating patterns of one part of the snowflake. With expensive optical equipment you could follow these repeating patterns to the atomic level. If you were a mathematician you would be able to construct a mathematical formula for these continually repeating patterns known as fractals. If you are not a mathematician, you can purchase a program to develop your own fractal designs.
Some fractals trigger a state of relaxation in the viewer. Most people find walking in a garden or forest relaxing. Being surrounded by nature has this effect. Photographs and paintings of nature can also produce a relaxation response. Is the relaxation due to a personal memory of what being in nature feels like, or is it due to the repetitive designs, fractals, within nature?
I'm going to say both are true.
Since fractals can now be designed with a computer program, some patterns will be found in nature and some will not be. Using computer generated fractals, let's examine the possibility that some fractals have a quality that induces relaxation.
Here is a little experiment you can try. (Finishing reading the directions before you do your search.) Use the keywords "fractals, images" in your favorite search engine. The one I used had more than 3 Million images. Click on one of the links that has multiple images. You'll want to look at one image at a time, not one image in a group of images.
Pick an image and just look at it. Notice how your body feels when you are looking at the image. Are you more tense, or do you relax? If you find yourself relaxing, the fractal has produced a relaxation response. The relaxation response causes changes in the body which boost the immune system, which assists the body in healing.
Pat attention to what you look at that produces relaxation. There are patterns within the very design, be it in nature or human engineered, that assist in generating the relaxation response.
People working in the complementary health field are now incorporating healing fractals in the designs of their products and in architecture. Examine the pictures and objects in your home or office. How does your body feel when you look at them? Relaxed or tense? If relaxed, then relaxation, which supports healing, is induced. Observing this effect can help you decide whether you want that piece of artwork or decoration in your space.

By Erik Valdman
Life is actually fair! You have not lost any time! You have not been challenged without a reward!
What you are about to discover today could possibly be seen a bit controversial...so please keep reading only if you are willing to be a bit open minded...
Many teachers and gurus in personal development and even spiritual teachings may encourage and teach how to AVOID, ESCAPE and /or FIGHT in your current life situation, whatever it may be, health, money or family related. Well, wasn't it what you have been doing up until now anyway, and if you are still convinced that there is a place to escape or you still have the energy to fight...please keep doing things as you have done them until now.
But, if you have had enough running, fighting and now realize that the time has come to grow stronger and wiser...listen in carefully...
I know that if you are reading this, your life may not be going in the direction you have imagined it would, and if it is things are just not moving fast enough. You are stressed, you are tired, you are anxious and the worst is you do not see the light at the end of the tunnel, not just yet anyway.
The future is so unpredictable, that you if you are truly honest with yourself you are afraid to go there!
Experience tells us that if you can't see your future, you will never be inspired, and you will simply never have enough energy to get there...survival at best and the stress and anxiety which its natural companion.
At times where futurists predict a world wide doom and glum, consumer confidence are at the lowest levels ever, economic reality sets in, a credit crunch as global institution collapse, global unemployment levels could reach the highest point ever...you still need to find a way, to hold on to your life, to support your family, to survive...but where are the answers as to how?
There is no more time for theories... If you could only find WORKING PROVEN TOOLS to change your current reality...
but if tools like that existed, wouldn't every one instantly know about them and use them?
The answer is NO! The fact is that most people are actually afraid of anything new, even if it is good for them. People will often be prepared to suffer than to change...especially if that change has to be INNER CHANGE! You are obviously had enough stress and fighting and are seriously looking for a change...
So here it is:
This article begun with saying that "Life is actually fair! You have not lost any time! You have not been challenged without a reward!"
Now, the above statement is not empowering pain, nor promoting suffering as it could be easily misunderstood...
You need not punish yourself to appreciate life...life brings enough natural sacrifices...
What you must realize your incredible untapped potential...and learn how to embrace every challenge, and turn it into an advantage. Use every moment as a guide as the energy towards your desired future!
You need not hide from it, not forget it, as you can't...you simply need to use it to your advantage.
Before you are able to embrace your history, you need to understand what it is and how important your personal history is for your future. "Severing Your personal History"
Up until this moment you may have been the prisoner of your past!
There are ways you can learn how your past, your personal history can free you!
It is not the knowledge nor the experience of your past that you must embrace, that you are doing already, and it is simply not enough...
You need to learn how to empower the value of your past, your genetics, your stresses, your challenges, and instead of forgetting them, letting them go, USE THEM as a "CURRENCY" TO BUY YOUR FUTURE!
Using INNER ENERGY SECRETS you can empower each day, each moment of Anger and Stress, each downfall and each challenge and "bad" experience...
You will begin seeing every thing "UPSIDE DOWN", so you need not AVOID, ESCAPE and /or FIGHT your past or current life situations if and only if, your current challenge clearly leads to a new opportunity!
