Recession Advice - They Survived the Great Depression and Beyond - What Can We Learn From Them?
By Doc Miller
People who experienced the Great Depression were among the great problem solvers in history. Not only did they solve their own problems but also they shared their solutions freely. Their solutions survive today because they became well-worn sayings. The trick is finding new applications for those old sayings.
What did they say?
"Waste not, want not." Have you heard that before? Today we would write it like this, "Waste not, want not." Writing it this way implies some of the meaning or the moral of the story. "You'll not be wanting if you save enough for future use."
Can we find a direct application for immediate use and benefit?
Perhaps you are unaware of the thief hiding in many of your electrical appliances. Walk around your house and count the little red lights on your space heaters, your DVD players, your microwave, etc. Your computer may not have a little red light but it and your TV, that starts with a remote control, also hide electric thieves in them.'
Needs
It's pretty certain that we need electricity to support the lifestyle we have become used to. I wouldn't begin to suggest that you give up using it, in all of its beneficial ways. But we can stop the electric thieves in their tracks by applying our predecessors' rule in a special way. Many people are already using this device because it allows us to use one electric outlet for many appliances. The special way of using it is to "turn it off" when the appliance is not in use. Hey, it's easier and less hazardous than unplugging each of the many electrical appliances we have and re-plugging them in each time we need 'em.
Wants
Saving electricity for future use serves all of us. We all want to have the comfort and ease that electricity brings us. This little habit of flipping the switch and shutting down our electric thieves access to our precious utility is not only cheap and easy but it also insures that it will be there when we want it. I'm pretty sure my mother wants her electricity to run her oxygen supplying machine and to run her furnace blower. She doesn't feel that it is burden to switch off her electric thieves in her unused appliances throughout her house. Don't you?

Discover Why Releasing Guilt and Shame Will Speed Your Success
By Leon Cautillo
If you are experiencing being separate, restricted and limited you repel the experience of happiness, joy, freedom and bliss. And if you are experiencing happiness, joy, freedom and bliss you repel any notion of separation and limits and unworthiness. These are opposing emotions. Just as hot and cold can be merged together they cannot maintain their individual degrees of temperature. Nor can you maintain an extreme sense of hate and anger towards another and at the same time feel your love and kindness. It is also true that you can not allow yourself to attract the experience of joyful abundance and feel unworthy. The separation is the illusion that there can be a separation from your divine self.
For most, happiness and joy is not the dominant experience of life, as humans have learned to be influenced by the appearance of reality. The way things seem to be is a function of our perspective of reality. Without the notion that you could be 'unworthy of God's love', or whatever universal force there is for you, you would be in a permanent state of happiness and joy.
Everyone is capable of attracting to their life all that is desired. Why would people ever seek to be a doctor or lawyer or an American Idol if they didn't believe they could be? Or why for that matter would you go to a dance in hopes of meeting someone, if you did not at least have a ray of hope that the he or she of your dreams might be there? We all know that there are limitations real or unreal that we have placed on ourselves making it difficult at times to have the relationship we want, make the sale we wish to make or find the right job. We desire, and for a fleeting moment it is there in the form of an image of what it is we want. Somehow we have difficulty having it remain. We don't seem to allow those feelings to remain with us.
Do you ever do things you really enjoy doing and right after you feel not so good about having done it? You eat that second piece of chocolate cake and it taste so, so good and then after finishing it you feel guilty or ashamed or some not so good feeling about it. It's not quite like that bad odor that as soon as you get a whiff of it you quickly retreat. In these cases you experience the pleasure first, and then retreat, all be it we know ahead of time how we will feel. What is it that you want to feel good and you feel bad if you do? Everyone has one or more long held emotions of unworthiness, none of which are worth the keeping. They only slow you down on your journey.
You are feeling good and you have thoughts and you smoke a cigarette. Then you feel bad and you have thoughts about yourself. You are feeling good and you have thoughts and you eat a piece of chocolate cake. Then you feel bad and you have thoughts about yourself. You are feeling good and you have thoughts and you masturbate. Then you feel bad and you have thoughts about yourself. You are feeling good and you have thoughts and you buy a beautiful jacket. Then you feel bad and you have thoughts about yourself.
Do you feel bad because you broke your own word with yourself that you don't deserve to feel good and be happy? The experience of one aspect of yourself that desires to feel good with another aspect that believes it is not worthy, hence the feeling of guilt and/or shame.
In my next article on this subject I will shed light on barriers to the experience of allowing the dreams and wishes we seek to come to us unrestricted by opposing emotions of guilt, shame, etc. Fundamentally we all have a degree of misunderstanding about who we are and what our higher self has provided us. That misunderstanding of the invented identity self is the conclusion of unworthiness. As a primary coat protected by the guards of guilt and shame, we are always on the look out for evidence that we are not worthy. We wish happiness and will do what we need to be happy even if it will later evoke the experience of guilt or shame, further affirming our belief that we are not worthy.
The great news is the overcoming of these unfortunate childhood beliefs, unwittingly endorsed by the complete environment in which the child was raised, is not painful or agonizing in any way.
Forgiveness is letting go. It is a self cleansing act and when further investigation is made, it is realized that forgiving begins with a shift in making oneself wrong. It is a profound freeing up, a relief, a letting go of the past as something that we unknowingly keep in the present. And it is the law of attraction that affords us the golden opportunity to release these negative, limiting emotions.
You now know that the idea of unworthiness is suspect and has no legs to stand on and without its context, shame and guilt can no longer be. Now our choices become based upon whether it works or not, not whether you will feel guilty or not. You are allowed full life no less than the birds and the trees and the butterflies. You have no past that can deny you of all the happiness and joy you desire, it is your birthright. Joy and love is always at the next turn, it is what you bring to life.

Surviving the Recession - Tips to Avoid Being Laid Off From Your Job
By Hugues Nkamwa
Massive job layoffs have made job security a thing of the past. It is increasingly important to be seen as a valued employee if you are to retain your job. Do not fret and worry whether you are going to be called in the office at 4:45pm by your boss.
Take heart, here are 7 tips to help you navigate though these tough times:
1. Become a team player.
It is critical in this time that you come across as a team player. You may naturally not be one. You have no choice here. Become more interested in making your colleague's job easier. Doing so will make your boss's job easier.
2. Do the thing you are most competent at.
You were hired to fill a need. If that need is not fulfilled you have no reason to stay employed. Find, understand and fill the need that you were hired for. Perform this assignment with passion and zeal.
3. Be willing to learn new skills.
In difficult times organizations will seek to get all they can get out of you. The way they do that is to have trusted employees take on added or new assignments. If you come across as one who is a quick learner you will be considered more valuable to your organization.
4. Develop superior problem solving skills.
Come across as one who can think and provide real solutions in real time to your organization. All organizations are constantly flooded with an incessant flow of problems. Be perceived as a superior problems solver.
5. Be open and flexible.
Some employees really do not like to be pushed around. They are those who are always let go first. Strive to be viewed as one who is not tied to the job descriptions of your position.
6. Develop excellent communication skills.
It is not what you say but how you say it that matters. Strive to communicate professionally and effectively. The way you communicate determines if you are liked or not in your organization.
7. Manage your time wisely.
More will be expected of you with the same hours you worked before. And you may not be compensated for the extra effort. In such a case being able to squeeze more out of your time will leave you happy and productive. This is important to avoid burning out.
You can retain your job even when all seems to be going down hill. Provide the value and fill the voids that is unavoidable in any company and you will retain your job.
And if you are laid off after doing all these do not despair. You have just learned valuable skills that will let you quickly find another job or why not, go in business for your self.
We are a values driven society. Make your self count, bring value to main street and you will find success.
