The Ideal Resume

W
hen one goes for an interview, the potential employer has no idea of who the applicant is. In some cases, the person applied to the ad while others used a headhunter or job site on the internet and matched their credentials for the position. The first impression employers always look at is one's resume. Given the many that apply, this usually takes about 30 seconds and so with the limited words, one must be sure that the resume is well written and grammatically correct.

The resume must say almost everything about the person. This should always start with pertinent information such as the person's name, age, address, contact number and social security number. The details here are needed so if one is considered to be a potential employer, it will be easy for the company to get in touch with the applicant and be scheduled for an interview. Next is the career objective which is the reason why the applicant wants to apply for the position. By putting a strong goal in mind and not a general one, the employer will see that this person has a direction which is why that person wants to work for the company.

The next section should include the relevant skills and knowledge one has had in the current and previous jobs as well as highlighting one's major accomplishments. By putting in detail the things one has done in that position and experiences learned from it, that information is already basis for the employer to see the potential the applicant has for that position. It shows the qualities one possesses and the benefits one can contribute to the further growth of the company.

After that, the resume should show one's educational background. Some companies prefer someone with a degree in a certain field, a licensed professional to do the job or one who possesses a master's degree. By showing one's credentials, it is a good indicator of the type of training one has possessed in school and the accomplishments one has achieved in the course of one's career.

The latter section should provide details such as hobbies, interests and character references. Employers look at potential applicants who not only have the qualifications for the job but also those who also those who are well rounded. Being active in a certain organization and be seen as a leader in a group shows one's social skills with others. Character references do the same and give people an idea how one performed working with that person. There is no ideal resume. It depends on the job. It is an important step one must pass before being called for that first interview. ***

Succeeding at the Interview

In order to get the job, you have to show up as enthusiastic, knowledgeable and "right" for the position. There are ways you can assure this. The tips below are just a few things to remember when you are in the interview setting. Your job in the interview is to make the hiring manager like you well enough to want to hire you over all the other qualified candidates. Since you will be "liked" within the first five minutes of the interview, be very careful at that first impression. Are you dressed modestly and appropriately? Ladies, did you leave the cleavage-showing sweater at home and wear a pretty blouse that flatters you but is not too revealing? Is your skirt at an appropriate length? Gentlemen, did you show up in a jacket and tie? Are your shoes shined?

While you want to know about the company you are applying to, don't waste the interviewer's time by trying to demonstrate that you have studied the company. Let that come out more naturally as you answer the questions that the interviewer wants to ask. Be very careful that you take your lead from the interviewer. You don't want to direct this interview, but you DO want to be responsive to the interviewer. ***

Crucial research to catapult your interview performance and your

Millions of dollars are spent annually on marketing research by savvy companies aiming to maximize their marketing dollars when showcasing their products and services to their prospective clients. They recognize that to capture the attention of a potential customer and successfully elicit a subsequent purchase, their wares must be targeted specifically to their clients needs. Unprepared companies that lack thought and consideration in their marketing research and going in blindly with their promotions are often left feeling disappointed at the lack of response their advertising campaigns receive.

When it comes to your job search and advertising campaign, which company are you most like? Do you carefully plan and perform extensive research of your potential buyer enabling you to align your experience with their needs, or do you just go in blindly? Strategic research and revealing the needs of your potential buyer is also crucial for a job seeker. Just like the company not paying much attention to their clients needs, if the company s needs are neglected by the job seeker, they too may be setting themselves up for disappointment.

Unfortunately this is one area that job seekers often fail to do, or fail to do well. So important is this process in your job search and interview preparation that our e-book Ace that Interview! Cutting-edge interviewing techniques EXPOSED!dedicates an entire segment to this strategy. If you are not currently performing any real research and are not convinced this process is vital to your job search and interview campaign, here are a few of the key reasons why you should.

Researching a company and job requirements will allow you to:

1.Prepare responses with relevant examples pertinent to the job s requirements avoiding elimination as you will be positioning yourself as a serious contender for the role;

2.Demonstrate a fit with the company culture;

3.Strengthen your understanding of the company s structure;

4.Establish whether or not you believe this position and organization is a good fit for you, to prevent a possible fallout down the track were you to accept the role only to realize that it was not as expected.

Your research should endeavour to pinpoint:

1.The company s products and services;
2.The company s target market;
3.The company s competitors;
4.The interviewer and their role within the company. [If you gained this interview opportunity through one of your network contacts, you may be fortunate enough to gain inside information as to characteristics, mannerisms and communication style of the interviewer];
5.Special projects the company is working on (that perhaps you may have been involved in during previous employment);
6.Whether the organization is a large or small enterprise which can impact on salary negotiation. Large and longer established companies could have a larger revenue base and may be able to offer a larger salary base compared to a smaller/start-up organization;
7.What structure the interview will follow. Whether it will be a panel (who is sitting on the panel); a group panel, involving psychological assessments etc;
8.Allows you to develop powerful questions to ask the interviewer.

To begin your research regime you can try the following resources:

- Company website

- Advertising brochures and other promotional material

- Newspaper articles, professional journals

- Your contacts that may have dealt with, or are dealing with the company including suppliers, customers, existing/former staff

- Business Review Websites

- Company Research Websites, and the list goes on

The information you compile will assist you in preparing relevant situations from your work experience, qualified with past performance and examples. This information should be strategically aligned to the needs of the organization, thus positioning you as the best candidate for the job. ***
