Freelance Work Requires Overcoming Distractions

Freelance Work Requires Overcoming Distractions
By Kathryn Lang
I've been distracted. My email popped up a sweepstakes opportunity that led me to the DIY Network which made me start looking for ways to sign up for the shows. After about thirty minutes of distraction I realized I had my next post.

I have a limited amount of time each day. The 10 week challenge that I gave myself and the steps I'm taking to reach each goal help me to utilize my time. But no matter how well I attempt to plan there are distractions that often getting in my way. Defeating the distractions and getting back on track can take patience, energy and support.

Defeating Distractions

1. Use a timer for those tasks that can easily eat up your day (like checking emails or doing "research"). Having a buzzer go off could be all the motivation you need to get back to the task you should be doing.

2. Spread out the work. Sitting and grading papers (or writing articles or doing household chores) for hours on end can make your brain begin to sizzle. Spreading the work out into smaller chunks gives you a since of accomplishment and keeps you fresh.

3. Schedule time for play. All work and no play kind of defeats the reason many of us work at home in the first place. Plan one hour hear and there where you can get out and enjoy the sunshine, great weather and the family.

4. Find a partner. If there is someone else who works at the same times that you work then they can check in with you through out the day - preferably a quick IM, text message or email - and encourage you to accomplish your to-do list.

5. Watch the load. Over loading the must do portion of the to-do list can leave you feeling so overwhelmed that you don't even know where to start. Remember to make smaller tasks out of the larger tasks and to spread it out!

6. Shake if off. The truth is that we all get distracted even if we are in a perfect working environment. Our thoughts can wander off into worlds all their own. Shake it off, get up and do something manual then get right back to it. Never give up and never give in.

I have been distracted but I have come out on top of the distraction! I am re-energized to do what needs to be done. Distractions are going to happen. It is how they are handled that will determine if I continue on to the possibilities or stay behind in my own perceived limitations.

What Are You Grateful For in Life
By Rodney Hill
Gratitude is the master key for unlocking the doors to your vision, dreams, and goals. To be grateful for what you have and to really mean it from the bottom of your heart will usher in new and exciting new things in your life. Gratitude breaks the chains of poverty because you release the fear of not enough and all of the negative energy around it.

It chokes off fear and depression because for once you get to explore options you thought were lost and also the universe gets to reveal itself to you in ways that can't be described in words. You connect to all that is and all that will be for your desired outcome. Gratitude is releasing what you have clinched onto forever including mindsets and opening us up to be filled with abundance of all things including a deeper appreciation for life in all living things. Gratitude is the key that lets all that you've wished for out of the gates.

Gratitude breaks all the rules because it operates on faith and a heart filled with a deeper understanding of how life is truly meant to be lived and enjoyed. Nothing speaks gratitude more like taking the things you do have and looking at its true meaning you discover these things are a representation of your true personality both strengths and weaknesses and as you grow and develop some things you will keep and some will be replaced including relationships with a more meaningful gifts that shows your brighter spirit.

These things may be family looms handed down from generations or a small sentimental gift you received from a loved one. Gratitude allows you to really express how you feel towards God and the gifts he's placed at your feet. Some things are out and open where you can see them, other things are revealed with a closer look within yourself. Even if your living conditions or stuff is not what you had in mind for your life complaining or in anger because of what you don't have pushes everything you want away from you.

Because of disharmony and discord with the universal laws the things you don't want clings to you tighter. Gratitude is the elixir for bringing all things together even in your minds eye you don't know how it's going to happen and when it will arrive at your doorstep. This gratefulness also keeps you in the now where things really happen not in the past or future because those little presents you ask for or have forgotten begin to stick their little heads out from behind the chair, under the bed and they walk right out of your closet into your eyesight.

Continue to be grateful for all things and watch how things and people stand in line to shake your hand and give you all the gold you could ask for and more. P.S. Have lots of fun in your new life and adventures.

There is No Tomorrow
By Tim Connor
I'm not being pessimistic here just wanted to get your attention. Yes, there is always tomorrow for some people but not everyone. Not everyone gets to witness the beauty of a new sunrise or a new day to learn, laugh, play, work or love. However most people tend to live their lives as if tomorrow was assured, well it isn't for you, for me, for anyone. So, how are we supposed to live if there is no tomorrow?

One of my late heroes, Og Mandino was fond of saying, "Work like you are going to live forever and live like you would die tomorrow." We all get a limited amount of time here when you consider the age of the Earth or the time that has passed since humans first appeared. I find it interesting that so many people put off things and push them into their future when they have no guarantee that they have a future or another tomorrow.

As I have said many times, life in the end is not about money, fame, power, achievement, success or any fleeting and temporary element. Life is about the relationships you forge with friends, family and anyone who crosses your path while you are here. If this is true, why do so many people sacrifice all of their todays in their relationships expecting that they will fix or change things tomorrow? Tomorrow is an illusion, a fantasy an unknown and expecting to do anything tomorrow, well, if you get it, great but what if you don't?

Too many people end each day with regret, guilt, anger, resentment, blame or any other negative emotion. I ask you, if you knew you would die tonight in your sleep what would you do today?

I'll guarantee you wouldn't work. But what would you do? If I had to guess you'd pick up the phone and call people who touched your life in some way. You'd probably get in your car and spend time with loved ones who you knew you would never see again in this life.

And, what would you do when you were on the phone with these people or with them in person? Let me guess.

- You would tell them what they meant to you.
- You would hold them and tell them how much you loved them.
- You would share common happy memories with them.
- You would spend time looking at pictures in your scrapbook or on your computer.
- You would write a letter to them thanking them for knowing them.

There is so much more you could do and would do but I'll guarantee you wouldn't sit at your computer sending emails or searching websites. You wouldn't spend time at your favorite hobby or reading or shopping or exercising.

You would spend time with people who loved you or you loved. People who impacted your life or meant a great deal to you.

So, what would you do with your last day?
